Free Crochet Pumpkin Hat Pattern - Newborn Crochet Pattern - Video Tutorial

Happy Fall! This week’s pattern is the crochet pumpkin hat! I made the original pattern for this almost 10 years ago! Can you believe that? The updated pattern includes a leaf and some vines. A perfect little pumpkin costume for a newborn.

Materials:

5.00 mm Crochet Hook
Worsted Weight Yarn
Tapestry Needle
A Pair of Scissors
Stitch Marker

Note: The numbers in the brackets represent the number of stitches in each row

Abbreviations

CH – Chain
MR – Magic Ring
SC – Single Crochet (DC in UK terms)
DC – Double Crochet (TR in UK terms)
HDC – Half Double Crochet (HTR in UK terms)
FLO – Front Loop Only
BLO – Back Loop Only
SLST – Slip Stitch
ST(s) – Stitch(es)
FO – Finish Off

Pattern:

Stem
Row 1: CH 13. SC into 2nd CH from hook and till end.
FO. Leave long tail to sew stem onto the top of the pumpkin hat.

Leaf
CH 6.

Round 1: SC into 2nd CH from hook.
DC in next 2 STs. HDC in next. SC in last. CH 2. SLST into 1st CH. SC into same ST as SC. HDC on other side of CH. DC in next 2 STs. SC in last.

SLST into first SC. FO. Sew leaf on top of vines when the hat is complete.

Pumpkin Hat– Start with Brown Yarn

Round 1: CH 2. 8 DC into a MR. SLST into 2nd CH of CH 2 (8) Switch to Orange Yarn Note: Place stitch marker at the beginning of Round 2.

Round 2: CH 2. 2 DC into each ST around. SLST into 1st DC. (16)

Round 3: CH 2. 1 DC into same ST as CH 2. 2 DC in next. *1 DC in next, 2 DC in next.* Repeat around. SLST into 1st DC. (24)

Round 4: CH 2. 1 DC into same ST as CH 2. 1 DC in next. 2 DC in next. *1 DC in next 2 STs, 2 DC in next.* Repeat around. SLST into 1st DC. (32)

Round 5: CH 2. 1 DC into same ST as CH 2. 1 DC in next 2. 2 DC in next. *1 DC in next 3 STs, 2 DC in next.* Repeat around. SLST into 1st DC. (40)

Round 6: CH 2. 1 DC into same ST as CH 2. 1 DC in next 3. 2 DC in next. *1 DC in next 4 STs, 2 DC in next.* Repeat around. SLST into 1st DC. (48)

Round 7 – 13: CH 2. 1 DC same ST as CH 2 and around. SLST into 1st DC. (48)
