Crossover Crochet Cowl

Hello everyone!

Today I will be sharing a pattern I made up that was inspired by Karin’s Tunisian Cowl. I wanted to Tunisian crochet, but I am not brave enough to try it yet so I just did this in double crochets. I recently bought an afghan crochet hook so I might use that for my first Tunisian crochet project! This project was really simple and with a little folding and sewing it changes the look of the cowl.

Materials
6.5 mm (K) Hook
Worsted Weight Yarn – Roving Yarn (I used Red Heart’s Boutique Unforgettable Yarn – Petunia)
Scissors
Tapestry Needle

Abbreviations – US Terms
CH – Chain
HDC – Half Double Crochet
BLO – Back Loop Only
FO  – Finish Off
DC – Double Crochet
ST – Stitch SLST – Slip Stitch

Pattern – Cowl
CH 28.
Row 1: HDC in 3rd CH from hook and till end. Turn.
Row 2: CH 1. HDC in BLO in each ST from previous row. Turn.
Continue Row 2 until piece measures 80 cm (~32 inches)
FO. Leave long tail for sewing cowl together. Refer to pictures when sewing the piece. The short ends should overlap for about 10 cm (~4 inches). The slight fold on the top piece should be about 2.5 – 5 cm (~1 – 2 inches).

Pattern – Flower
CH 28.
Row 1: *(SC, HDC, DC, HDC, SC) in 2nd CH from hook. SLST into next ST.* Repeat from * to * till end. Turn.
Row 2: CH 1. *HDC into next 5 ST. SLST into SLST from ROW 1.* Repeat from * to * till end.
FO. Leave long tail for sewing flower together and sewing flower onto cowl or a pin. To sew the flower together, roll the completed piece up and sew the layers together.

I didn’t try Tunisian Crochet this time, but I will definitely give it a try in the future!
