Tunisian Crochet Scrunchie – Free Pattern – Video Tutorial – Tunisian Simple Stitch

Hello!
It is always fun to try some new crochet techniques and I have always wanted to try Tunisian Crochet. That is how I came up with this Tunisian Crochet Scrunchie. Using the Tunisian Simple Stitch and a bit of scrap yarn I made this scrunchie!
Let’s get started!
Table of Contents
Materials:
4.00 mm Crochet Hook
DK Yarn (I used SweetGeorgia)
Tapestry Needle
A Pair of Scissors
Elastic or Hair Tie
Abbreviations
CH – Chain
TSS – Tunisian Simple Stitch
SLST – Slip Stitch
FVB – Front Vertical Bar
ST(s) – Stitch(es)
FO – Finish Off

Pattern:
CH 13 loosely.
Setting Up for TSS: Turn CH over and make a front pass in each of the back bumps of the CH. (13)
Foundation Front Pass: Insert hook into bump, Yarn Over (YO), pull up a loop.
Repeat till end of row. (13 loops on hook)
Foundation Return Pass: Yarn Over (YO), pull through 1 loop, YO, pull through 2 loops. Repeat till end of row.
Front Pass: Insert hook into FVB, Yarn Over (YO), pull up a loop.
Repeat till end of row. Don’t forget the last ST of the row. (13 loops on hook)
Return Pass: Yarn Over (YO), pull through 1 loop, YO, pull through 2 loops.
Repeat till end of row.
TSS: Repeat the Front Pass and Return Pass until you have a piece that measures 17 inches long or 81 rows.

Optional colour change: At the end of the Return Pass, leave two loops on the hook and pull through new colour. Tie the ends of both colours together with a double knot. Double Knot the ends at the colour changes.
Finishing Off: Insert Hook, YO, Pull up a loop, YO, Pull through both loops. Repeat until end of row.
Sewing Scrunchie: With front side facing the hair tie, sew the seam closed.
Flip the piece every couple of inches. Change yarn colour once you get to a different colour.
Option #2: If you are using a piece of elastic that isn’t closed yet, you can sew the piece together, flip it and then weave in the elastic and form a loop.
Once piece is sewn and flipped. Sew the two openings together.
