How to Crochet a Toadstool Mushroom Applique – FREE Pattern

Hi there!

It is September and that means it is almost Autumn in the northern hemisphere! I am working slowly on my fall bunting pattern, but I wanted to share with you all the toadstool mushroom applique that I have already made. It is poisonous in real life, but is quite cute in crochet hehe

Materials: Toadstool Mushroom

4.00 mm (G) Crochet Hook
DK Yarn (I used Patons Astra)
Tapestry Needle
A Pair of Scissors

Note: The numbers in the brackets represent the number of stitches in each row

Abbreviations

CH – Chain

SC – Single Crochet (DC in UK terms)

ST – Stitch

SC2TOG – Single Crochet 2 Stitches Together

FO – Finish Off

Pattern: Toadstool Mushroom

With Red. CH 12.

Row 1: SC in 2nd. and till end. Turn. (11)

Row 2: CH 1. SC2TOG. SC in next 7 STs. SC2TOG. Turn. (9)

Row 3: CH 1. SC2TOG. SC in next 5 STs. SC2TOG. Turn. (7)

Row 4: CH 1. SC in each. Turn. (7)

Row 5: CH 1. SC2TOG. SC in next 3 STs. SC2TOG. Turn. (5)

Row 6: CH 1. SC2TOG. SC in next ST. SC2TOG. Turn. (3)

Edge: SC 5 down side. SC 11 in each beginning CH. SC 5 up other side. SC 3 in each of the top STs. (24)

Stem

Attach yarn in middle. (5th in from side.)

Row 1: SC 2 in same ST. Turn. (2)

Row 2 – 4: CH 1. SC in each. Turn. (2)

Row 5: CH 1. SC 2 in each. Turn. (4)

Row 6: CH 1. SC in each. FO. (4)

Edge: Attach yarn in same middle ST as beginning of stem. SC 4 down side. SC 4 across the end of the stem. SC 4 up other side. SLST to beginning ST. FO. (12)

White Spots: Attach white yarn and do 5 french knots randomly on the mushroom. Wrapping yarn 3 times on needle. Weave the yarn in the back between each dot for a neater look.

This was such a fun pattern to make and I feel very excited to design the next appliques for the autumn bunting! What other Fall themed appliques shall I make?
