Crochet a Balloon Applique – Free Pattern and Video Tutorial
Welcome to my blog!
This week I am sharing a quick and easy pattern for a balloon applique. You can turn these into a banner and use some cardstock to write a little message using small triangles. I have created a project in the Cricut Design Space for those that have a Cricut machine. But you can easily cut these by hand and make the banner just as cute!

Materials: Balloon Applique
2.00 mm Crochet Hook
3.00 mm Crochet Hook
Lace Yarn/Crochet Thread (I used Woolike)
DK Yarn (I used Patons Astra)
Tapestry Needle
A Pair of Scissors
Note: The numbers in the brackets represent the number of stitches in each row
Abbreviations
CH – Chain
SC – Single Crochet (DC in UK terms)
SC2TOG – Single crochet two stitches together (DC2TOG in UK terms)
SC3TOG – Single crochet three stitches together (DC3TOG in UK terms)
DC – Double Crochet (TR in UK terms)
SK – Skip
SLST – Slip Stitch
FO – Finish Off
Pattern: Balloon Applique
Row 1: SC in 2nd ST from hook and across (3)
Row 2: CH 1. SC 2 in 1st. SC in next. SC 2 in last. Turn. (5)
Row 3: CH 1. SC 2 in 1st. SC in next 3. SC 2 in last. Turn. (7)
Row 4 – 6: CH 1. SC in each. Turn. (7)
Row 7: CH 1. SC2TOG. SC in next 3. SC2TOG. Turn. (5)
Row 8: CH 1. SC2TOG. SC in next. SC2TOG. Turn. (3)
Row 9: CH 1. SC3TOG. (1)
Round 1: SC 8 down side. SLST into next 2. (CH 3. SLST into 2nd. DC. CH 2. SLST into 2nd. CH 1. SLST into same ST as DC) in same. SLST into next. SC 9 up other side. FO.
Balloon String
Use 2.00 mm hook and lace yarn in white.
Attach yarn in back bump of DC. CH 12. FO.

This makes the perfect little decoration to make someone feel a special when they return to work or home or if wanted a small birthday celebration. You could also make these balloon appliques and stick them around the party room for some cute decoration ideas.
