Crochet Mandarin Orange Pattern – Free Tutorial – Lunar New Year
Hello!
It is just a few days till Lunar New Year and I thought it was a great time to share my pattern for the crochet mandarin orange. We usually hang mandarin oranges at the door to bring in luck! This pattern uses very little yarn so you can make a lot using just one ball of yarn.
Let’s get started!

Materials: Mandarin Orange
3.00 mm Crochet Hook
DK Weight Yarn
Tapestry Needle
A Pair of Scissors
Stuffing
Note: The numbers in the brackets represent the number of stitches in each row
Abbreviations
MR – Magic Ring
CH – Chain
SC – Single Crochet (DC in UK terms)
ST – Stitch
SLST – Slip Stitch
FO – Finish Off
Pattern:
CH 9 with long tail.
Row 1: SC in 2nd CH from hook and each stitch across. Turn. (8)
Row 2 – 15: CH 1. SC in each. Turn. (8)
CH 1. SLST edging together with 8 SLSTs.
FO. Stuff and sew both openings closed.
Use end from beginning to sew bottom edge close and pull it toward the top to make a slight indent at bottom. (Go through the loops of each “bump”)
Stem
CH 3.
SLST into 2nd and 3rd CH from hook.
FO. Leave long tail for sewing and if there is extra yarn make a small “X” at the bottom of orange.
Leaf All in MR.
SC 2, CH 2, SLST into 1st, SC 2. FO. Leave long tail to sew leaf onto top of pumpkin.
