Crochet Hook Case Pattern

School has started so I will have less time to start new projects, but I have a few completed projects that I will be posting soon. I also plan on posting things on etsy so keep coming back for updates! Of course, I will continue to bake so there will be more recipe posts.

Today I will be talking about a crochet hook case that I made from an aluminum foil cardboard tube. I have seen many patterns through Craftgawker of people using toilet paper rolls. One of them is found at Kara’s Petals to Picot Blog. I made some changes to the pattern so it would fit around the small aluminum foil tube. I also used a bit of cardboard from a cardboard box for the ends of the tube so the hooks and needles don’t fall out.

Terminology (US Terms):

CH: Chain
SC: Single Crochet
HDC: Half Double Crochet

Adjusted Materials:
Aluminum Foil
Cardboard Tube (Cut it to the length of your hooks and needles then cut the lid (around 2 inches) from that)
Cardboard circles the size of the base of the tube

Adjusted Pattern:
Bottom (Base)
Round 1: Magic Ring (6), Slip Stitch.
Round 2 (Increasing Round): CH 2 (counts as 1 HDC), HDC in same hole, 2 HDC in each hole across, Don’t Slip Stitch. (12)
Round 3: SC in back loops of each HDC from Round 2, Don’t Slip Stitch. (12)

Note:Put into cardboard circle and leave it there.

Round 4-28 (24 Times): SC in each SC from Round 3, Don’t Slip Stitch. (12)

Note: Keep testing to see if the tube fits. Since the aluminum foil tube is thicker than the toilet paper roll it would be difficult to crochet with the tube inside. It might be a tight fit slipping the tube in when the base is complete, but it can be done.

Round 29: SC in each SC from Round 28, Slip Stitch. (12)
–>Change Colour<–
Round 30: Slip new colour into Slip Stitch of Round 30. SC in each SC from Round 30, Don’t Slip Stitch. (12)
Round 31-33: SC in each SC from previous round, Don’t Slip Stitch. (12)
Round 34: SC in each SC from previous round, Slip off. (12)

Note: Put in Base tube.

Top (Lid)

Round 1: Magic Ring (6), Slip Stitch.
Round 2 (Increasing Round): CH 2 (counts as 1 HDC), HDC in same hole, 2 HDC in each hole across, Don’t Slip Stitch. (12)
Round 3: SC in back loops of each HDC from Round 2, Don’t Slip Stitch. (12)

Note:Put into cardboard circle and leave it there.

Round 4-8 (5 Times): SC in each SC from Round 3, Don’t Slip Stitch. (12)
Round 9: SC in each SC from Round 8, Slip Stitch, Finish off. (12)

Note: Put in Lid tube

Finishing Touches
Attaching Lid to Base: Attach yarn(same colour as the lid) to the lid and use a tapestry needle to attach it to the base. Weaving in and out of 7 or 8 stiches should be enough to secure it and have the lid open easily, but this all depends on your preference. Just make sure that you don’t stich too many stitches together because the lid and base would be too close and won’t open.

Button: Attach button at border of colour change

Button Hole: Slip Stich into the Slip Stich of the Top (Lid). Slip Stich 5 times, Ch 9 ( this depends on how big your button is, so adjust this till it fits), Slip Stich back into the same stich on the lid, Slip Stich 5 times, Finish off.

This is the first time I have tried to alter a pattern to fit something of a different size. Let me know if there are any mistakes! It will be greatly appreciated!
